Hotwater Cole Tract
James City County
The Conservancy has worked in partnership with James City County to protect parcels of land when wetlands are unavoidably disturbed and the damage is offset by preserving or creating new wetland areas off site. This is called wetlands mitigation. Typically, for every one acre of wetlands disturbed, 1.8 acres are preserved or created off site. This conservation easement was utilized as a wetland mitigation area.
Situated within Freedom Park, protection of this parcel enabled James City County to satisfy a condition for a road crossing set forth by the Army Corp of Engineers.
